The GP100 and Smith 686 (L frame) are direct competitors. The Smith comes from the factory with a decent trigger, the GP100 (and SP101) require about 30 minutes of polishing and clipping 1-2 coils of hammer spring to bring the pull down. The Ruger does have the strongest frame. The price difference: ~$300 less for he Ruger.
